“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul – and sings the tunes without the words – and never stops at all.”  ~Emily Dickinson

Quality 15:  Hopeful

Good yoga teachers are hopeful.  They gather small kernels of hope along the byways of  their own journey and scatter them as pebbles upon the waters of their teachings.  Good yoga teachers reach deep into the recesses of their own hearts and minds and pull up genuine hope to offer their students.

Many students enter a yoga studio for the first time under tremendous physical stress, carrying toxic emotional baggage or with very low self-esteem.  Good yoga teachers recognize that yoga is much more than teaching students how to move their bodies and instead is an amazing opportunity to share a kernel of hope with these students.  Yoga teachers share hope by creating a safe place where everyone feels nurtured and welcome.

Yoga teachers also help students to realize and appreciate their own precious and amazing bodies!  Through consistent and dedicated practice with a good teacher, yoga students learn to accept and trust in their own abilities.  Acceptance and trust create hope, and good yoga teachers realize hope creates more acceptance and trust.  And thus the negative cycle is broken and as a beautiful butterfly emerges from its cocoon,  each student emerges a hopeful and dedicated yogi.

Have you felt strong hope in your life before?  Did it change you in some way?
