Greetings From the Cave

Yep!  That’s me at Indiana Caverns!  For those who don’t know yet, I am working part-time as a tour guide at our local cave. This picture was taken a few days ago during an expedition beyond the regular tour route with another, experienced caver.  Check out the low rocks behind me.  I belly crawled through there to pose beside chicken rock!

It was difficult mentally to be in such a tight space but also challenging physically.  I had to talk myself through it at first, focusing on my breath and also pushing myself to continue when I was tired and felt the “walls closing in.”

Sound familiar? Remember all of those yoga and kettlebell classes we shared together, where we pushed ourselves to continue when we were tired?  Or when we pulled our rambling minds back to our breath in meditation?  All of those practices prepared me for those scary moments in the cave and also prepared you for life’s adventures.  The right training pays off handsomely when it makes you mentally tougher!

When I awoke the next morning, I was pleasantly surprised that I was not sore.  Again, those kettlebell workouts have paid great dividends.  In the past year, I have also begun lifting barbells and my strength has skyrocketed.  At nearly forty-nine years old, I am stronger than ever and still quite flexible.  I am incredibly grateful that I found the right training methods that have enabled me to learn and enjoy new adventures.

Below I’ve included some other pictures from the trip.

Here I am crawling up a pretty small passage.  Just below me is a really neat waterfall.

This is one of our region’s small, brown bats.  We don’t see too many in our cave but we were lucky enough to see two along our route.

Here I am looking for Ice Age fossils.

These are Selenite needles.  They’re pretty cool and growing out of a rock!  If you could see them up close, you’d see that they are sparkly!

Are you interested in continuing your kettlebell and yoga education?  What are the skills you think you need to live your healthiest and most adventurous life?  Leave a comment below and let me know!  I’d love to hear how you’re doing!

Stay Old School Cool!
